Yes and I personally feel that is one of the biggest attractions is that they are there and will not come off. It's even better with headgears especially when the one (preferably a girl) is wearing it and is trying to hide it and cannot hide it all the way because it covers the whole head :) I love the embarrassment factor

my wife had braces - ceramic and not metal, and she had no issues really.  She was self conscious about having them as an adult and pretty embarrassed whenever she talked for the first few months.  But, after talking to others who have braces - the practice had 25% adult patients, she soon stopped caring what people thought.   I'm getting braces soon and deciding between metal and ceramic.  If end up with metal, I suspect I'll be like my wife and embarrassed at least at first.

It's not so bad! I got used to mine pretty quick and now never even think about them when i'm in public

I am looking forward to braces, but still a bit nervous.  I've thought about getting them for a few years and it is just now working out schedule and financially wise to get them

Good luck with them! You'll get used to them quickly and the payoff will be worth it!

I was self conscious the first week or so, but you quickly realize that most people don’t them give a second thought - unless they too have braces, but then it’s just a conversation topic for a few minutes.

In retrospect I wish I had gone with metal. I love the look on others, but just couldn’t pull the trigger when it came to my own brackets.

thanks for the encouragement.  I know I'll have metal on bottom because of my overbite, but I do have choice on the uppers, at least for the teeth that are seen when you smile.  I'll be getting bands on the back molars.

At first I was embarrassed because I was 21 and just getting braces for the first time. I was very self conscious and braces didn't help that, at first. Once I got comfortable with the braces I realized that there wasn't anything to be embarrassed about and people really didn't say anything or bring it up. It was the best decision I've made!

I've only had one comment from one person since I've had them, people dont seem to pay much attention or at least dont mention it!

So all in all people really won't focus on ones braces due to the fact that in passing by they can simply be hidden and if someone does focus on ones braces, which can cause the embarrassment factor, it's because it's more of an up close sighting. So with JUST braces on seems to be a slim to none embarrassment for the wearer, then would you consider your braces/Orthodontia embarrassing if you were walking in public with Reversible Headgear held tightly against your face or a Combination Headgear êngulfing your head with obnoxiously bright colored head straps?:

The only time I felt embarrassed wearing braces as a teenager was at sleepovers, when I had to strap into my headgear. But even that wasn't all that bad. The first time my friends saw it they made some jokes, but that was it. No one seemed up think any more of it.

It's partly embarrasing because no-one is having the appliance that you are wearing, so you feel like an outsider.

I never felt embarrassed only self conscious though I have always been when it came to my teeth even now after braces. I wish I was one of those people that could just smile big - braces or not, but that’s just not me.  So yes the person wearing them sometimes can feel embarrassed depending on their personality, but they aren’t embarrassing at all and most people don’t care and those who do are only curious because they probably are thinking about getting braces. Wearing them you think everyone cares and they don’t.

This pretty well sums up how I felt when I had my braces during my early 30s.. You think everyone will notice, but really most people don't give them more than a passing notice.
