To answer ur question, absolutely!
Like yourself, I'd had the opportunity to get braces initially when I was much younger, but shied away from them out of a mix of fear and embarrassment for what I had no idea was a developing kink. I only ended up getting them right out of highschool after I'd realized just how bad my teeth really were thanks to soem x-rays. Hindsight, if I could do it over again I would for sure get them sooner.
With the installation itself, it had been planned months in advance, so I counted the days in anticipation until the day finally came, and when I was finally in the chair for the long haul, I could hardly contain my excitement. I'd say a downside to the kink would be the stress of trying to keep under wraps that you're enjoying it all so much, which definitely gets in the way of the experience.
Since finally getting them, I haven't had a single day I've regretted it. Little things like smiling in the mirror or running my tongue along my brackets after eating, even trying to smile more often just to make it as obvious as I can to other people I'm rocking a metal mouth, it's been a blast. I can already tell im gonna dread the appointment my ortho brings up getting them off, but there're always fakes that come with more appliances than I'd ever organically get from a regular treatment, so I at least have that to look forward to.
So go for it. Best thing to do in the face of those insecurities is just smile and wear it.
They're YOUR braces, might as well embrace them and make them apart of you.
