Just received this in a press release....
"If you thought that orthodontics (that's teeth realignment to you and me) was only for the rich, famous, under 18's or just Americans, you'd be wrong. Whether you're 12 or 76 orthodontics can significantly change the look and function of your teeth.
A new study conducted by YouGov on behalf of the British Orthodontic Society reveals a staggering 45% of the UK adults population are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth, resulting in many suffering from low self esteem. With more than 20% of us now considering orthodontics as a practical way to improve our image, love lives and job prospects.
The first National Orthodontic Week (NOW) takes place during the week of 22 - 28 March 2010 and has been set up by the British Orthodontic Society (BOS), a charity which promotes the very best in education, research and care for patients. The NOW campaign has been created to focus attention on the ways the appearance and function of people’s teeth can impact on their lives and how this can be improved. It also aims to provide people with clear, trustworthy and impartial information about orthodontic treatment. Orthodontics is something many people could benefit from. Evidence from several previous studies indicates that one third of all children assessed at the age of 12 have significant need for orthodontic treatment. This means nearly 4 million children could be growing up with orthodontic problems that could affect them in later life."There's an interview (designed for radio stations to play....) here:
