The lisp is amazing. I find it extremely joyful to have my speech impeded on by a mass of orthodontc devices inside my mouth and protruding out of my mouth! ; )

Great when others have a lisp from something new. I really like that.

Strangely, with mine, I was really self-conscious about a lisp when I first got to wear plates and thought that it was obvious to everyone, which made me stumble over my words. After a couple of days I recorded myself and realised that nothing was noticeable.
For me, I like to know that I have the plates in and feel them but I like that I have learned to talk and eat with them and nothing is noticeable. Its like they are part of me and, in fact, I can probably say S's a bit clearer with them in than without.

My wife just got her braces off and her Hawley retainers give her a pronounced lisp. I'm digging it!

that's a cool fantasy. I love the idea of having a mouth full of metal. I'd want to do an outing with my friends wearing it though. Also I'd want to add a facemask to it because I love that the elastics have to come out of your mouth and it totally brings attention to your face. I don't' think braces are embarrassing but I'd definitely feel self concious wearing it all. I still would. But I know I'd get used to it and eventually be able to enjoy myself when I'm wearing braces.

Hi Embers!

What you write makes absolutely sense. You really get used to a lot of stuff, placed in your mouth.
Did you ever have to wear any kind of braces by yourself?
Are you planning to order something from the braces store?
I have two sets of bracees from here and am very lucky with them. My favourite brace is my modified twinblock with telescopic herbst and headgear. I love the feeling and also the look of the wires coming out of my mouth and being secured with a lot of straps.
In the beginning I could hardly speak with them, but now my wife - and she´s the only one who knows about them - understands me quite good, when I´m talking to her, with mit "full mouth"
Unfortunately she does not really like me wearing them. But sometimes she must accept it ;-)

Unfortunately, I've never worn braces in my life :(
I'm kinda new to this so I don't know what all the stuff is called but as soon as I learn enough about them, I'm totally going to buy some stuff from the store
