Bottom headgear

Hi all,

Does an headgear on lower teeth work? Could there be any problem? What if attached to a removable appliance?

I've read tat headgear can be used on lower teeth on both kids and adults, though have also read that having it can cause some unintended negative effects.   I myself may be having to wear it during evenings and overnight for a month or so when I get braces on in November.  They use it sometimes if they've had to extract a tooth and need to work to keep things aligned, which is what would be my case.

sorry - no further information other than what I shared.  best bet is to google headgear for adults and check out the links shown.  That is what I did after I learned I may have to wear it,

There's a study out there somewhere about the efficacy of a mandibular facebow for class III treatment.

It's not generally done in orthodontics. Headgears or facemasks are only used to influence the upper jaw

Lower headgear as I understand it, runs a big risk of damaging the TMJ - probably less in kids as their faces are still forming, but not for adults, I think they stick to elastics instead as a much lower force.
