Overbite/Overjet Correction
« on: 06. June 2017, 19:55:30 PM »
Hey guys,

So basically I have some questions about my braces. I'm a 19 year old male, and growing up I had a really bad thumbsucking habit, which I developed when I was an infant. As a result my upper teeth protruded out producing a huge overbite. When I was 13, I got braces which as a result pushed back my upper teeth into their normal positions. Unfortunately, I started thubsucking again, and as a result my teeth went back to having a huge overbite. I got braces a second time when I was 16. This was a different orthodontist since I had moved to another state. Rather than simply giving me braces to correct my bite, she stated I need an appliance called a "bite correcter" to move my lower jaw forward. I wanted to know if this was really necessary. My braces will come off in a couple months and I feel like my whole mouth has been moved forward, giving my face a really weird monkey like appearence. Was the bite correcter really necessary? Also, there's still a gap between my upper and lower incisors. Do you think my orthodontist will correct it in these last new few months? Please let me know.
