Thinking about having braces...
« on: 12. July 2007, 13:32:52 PM »
Hello everyone, well, I am thinking about having an orthodontic treatment at a Dentistry & Dental Surgery Hospital https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://www.jdhealthcare.com/dental.html#3 however I have some questions that requires some answers. What is the difference between clear braces and metal one? Are the results very satisfactory after removing the braces, are the teeth aligned? Is it painful? I am thinking about doing it there because I heard that they have the best expert team of Periodontists, Orthodontists, Maxillo-facial Surgeons, Prosthodonists and Implantologists. They are equipped with the most modern technology; the centre handles all laboratory and dental procedures. Has anyone done anything there?

I just want to say, that sounded more like an advertisement than a query :P

Anyways, the only answer I can help with is in relation to ceramic vs metal, and that is that most people I know think metal ones are better because ceremic ones are larger (chuckier) and also stain easily, usually making them look yellow and disgusting after only a few weeks. Also, from a technical stance, ceramic ones are also not as strong, but your orthodontist will inform you if this is an issue with your treatment.

Also when a ceramic bracket breaks in a half it may be annoying and hurt if the ortho needs to remove the remaining stuff from the teeth. On the other side colored ligatures on ceramic brackets look somehow cool, the ceramic seem to glow a bit. Id prefer metal anyway, its more solid and sparkles in light, that looks very precious somehow. (just like jewelry)

Fallfrombrace ... ceramic braces are only slightly larger and are the same height of the tooth.  They are smoother and more comfortable due to their finish.  Also with them being slightly larger, this allows the spread of any discomfort felt by the cheeks ... again a comfort thing.    Ceramic braces DO NOT stain ... and will not stain.  Ceramic is not a material that can stain.  Ceramic is very hard and this is a reason that many orthodontists will not put them on the lower arches, as they can damage your upper teeth if they come in contact with them.

Tyrael ... modern ceramic brackets do not break in half, they go on and come off the same as stainless steel brackets.  I agree that ceramic brackets do show off the coloured ligs much better than the stainless ones, as they're translucent, whereas the stainless colour detracts from the ligs by dulling it.

Diamonds are more expensive when it comes to jewellery ... and some ceramics look like diamonds ... so clear will look more like jewelry than stainless stell every will!

I have ceramic brackets for last three months and am more than pleased with them, had almost no discomfort, almost no pain, almost no irritation of cheeks...So I`ll keep them wearing (especially as my wife likes them).

Basically personal preference.  Ceramic may be a little more expensive, though.
