I can understand being insecure about having braces, especially as an adult. I didn't start my treatment until I was 21. At the end of the day, no one really says anything and you're in pursuit of a perfect smile, so who cares. Smile with confidence!

I had removables for maybe 7 years - because I didn't wear them enough. Lower with a screw to push the front teeth forward, upper Hawley with various springs. They were doing pretty well until I went to university - then I only wore them at night - and not many nights.
By the time I came back they didn't fit, so I stopped going to appointments, and that was the end! They have relapsed, but not terribly, but I may go for treatment again - probably.
My first treatment was free (in the UK), but the next one wont be. Hoping I can get it done with removables but hardly any orthos seem to use removables on adults.

I just got braces, and it feels wierd, i already had an idea of what it would feel like, but until you got them on, you really get to know the senstion it produces. I just got them like 2 hours ago, so lets  see if the pain increases  ;D

My treatment starts yesterday. For the moment I do not have brackets but orthoclonic brace on top only like this :

https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://anonym.to/?https://dereferer.me/?https://dereferer.me/?http://www.labo-guilbaud.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/orthoclonic2.png

It's invisible but kind of disturbing because of the lisp. Not easy to talk properly.

Brackets are going to come on top in several month, when there will be more space. During that time, I will have an orthoclonic brace on bottom, then braces on bottom.

Just got them late last year and have always been fascinated with the way they work.

never braces, but I did have my jaw wired shut for about two months when I was sixteen. It was a nice experience, but I just wish I didn't have a broken jaw when it happened.

wow yeah that sucks!
If you don't mind me asking, how did they attach the wires to wire your jaw shut if you didn't have braces?

it wasn't braces so much as a metal band with hooks on it for elastics. It was anchored along my upper and lower gums and then about twenty elastics used to immobilize my jaw. It wasn't "braces" per se but I did enjoy the hardware nonetheless

oh okay I looked it up. I had something called "arch bars" that held my jaw shut with a bunch of elastics

are arch bars braces?

I had to look this up and honestly it looks way more uncomfortable than braces! Although I've never had either myself so only going on what it looks like.
I guess they are sort of braces but a very different style - like the difference between invisalign and traditional braces in a way.

sorry I don't want to recount the incident that caused my broken jaw, but I'm more than happy to talk about having it wired shut

Well I had a metal plate put into my jaw so I was asleep when it was wired shut. I woke up unable to open my mouth which was kinda scary at first, but once that passed it was pretty nice. I couldn't open my mouth, which made me unable to talk in anything more than a mumble. feeling hungry all the time was the only part that sucked, though. Still, I got to be quiet and nonverbal and it cut down the amount of talking to me that people do and that was probably the best part. Once my jaw was freed I had a hard time opening it for about a week but the tendons loosened up and my mouth opened all the way while I was eating pizza. All in all though, I'd love to do it again
