I dated a girl for a few months with ceramic upper and lower. kissing was amazing and the brackets really pushed her lips out. I know that she used elastics but would never wear them in front of me, even though I stayed over many nights a week. I made it clear that I really (!) liked her braces but she still remained sort of embarrassed by them, which was cute but frustrating.
There's two ladies (one mid thirties, one mid forties) wearing metal braces who drink in my local pub, man they look good, both taken however.

Just a mid treatment update.... Yesterday my gf went to the ortho for the monthly check and she has a square cross section wire put on (only the upper jaw). Do you think it's normal? I thought square cross section wires were only for the last part of the treatment but I'm sure she is wearing braces at least till december.

Now the "bad" point..unluckily even if she has hooks on braces she has never had to wear elastics :(

Maybe I'll buy one packet just for fun in the future.

Many braced kisses.

Potomo :)

Unfortunately no, but his teeth aren't perfect, kinda crooked.
Maybe there is a chance :)

My husband was wearing metal braces when I met him (not as kids or teenagers - we were in our early 20s!) and they were quite honestly the only thing that made me talk to him. We went to college together and he was the ONLY person on the entire campus who still had braces except for a few students who got theirs off a few months into the school year. He had something mysterious in his mouth that made him lisp (I was dying to know what it was) so I was always trying to find an excuse to talk to him and stare at his braces and elastics.

After two years (and three before I met him, so he wore braces for five years in his twenties) he got them off, and I had a very anxious few weeks before they were removed. I was so scared I'd built a whole relationship with someone with braces at the very center, and that when he got them off I'd be stuck with someone I wasn't attracted to anymore. I didn't know what to do. It sounds so silly now, but I was really worried back then!

We've been together for 14 years now so it turned out ok :) He never wears his retainers though. Like, never, ever, ever. Even on my request. And yet somehow... his teeth are perfectly straight. Go figure!

It makes me so glad to read this - my fiancée will be getting her braces off at some point and I have been having exactly these worries. She was told last year (December) that she'd finish in April or May, but we moved house earlier in the year so she hasn't had an appointment in 6 months.
I'm not sure when she'll finish now but I'm sure she'll still be the one for me and my love for her will be just that, not just a love for her braces. Reading what you wrote just backed up that conviction, thanks :)

Thelog, I am curious if your fiancee knows how you feel about her braces?

Hi Cassandra, yes she knows. She actively uses her braces in her flirting, it's fun and cute. A while back she told me that she too was worried about how I'd feel once her braces were off but I made sure that she knows not to worry about that.
I'll miss her braces when they're gone but I look forward to her getting retainers, plus she's open to the idea of getting fakes :)

Thelog, that's great to hear that your fiancee knows how you feel and that she's open to the idea of getting fakes. My wife was worried about how I would feel once her braces come off but I too made sure she knows not to worry (this is her second time with braces). She knows how I feel and is also open to the idea of getting fake appliances after she completes her treatment. The way I look at it is a win-win for both of us!
