Can I take impressions with fixed braces on?
« on: 15. November 2016, 00:23:26 AM »
Hello, I am currently wearing fixed braces, which I'm going to get off in few months. I would like to order the "Upper Plate Jaw" from the Braces Shop. Is it possible to take accurate impressions while wearing fixed braces? Thank you.

Hi,

not sure about the specialties of the impression kits from the shop and just my personal opinion/knowledge, but orthos normaly take impressions for retainers after removing the fixed braces. It will be nearly impossible to make a plate that fits your teeth without braces with impressions taken with braces on. Especially aat the banded molars you can't make a plate fitting the teeth from an impression taken with the bands on the teeth. There will always be a gap between teeth and plate where the bands have been.

So unless the shop technician tells you it will work, I would prefer to wait until the braces are removed. But perhaps you post some details for him to better understand the situation - do you have only brackets, or also bands, any other additional fixed appliances?

Wish you good luck ;-)

Thank you for such a quick response!

I did send a message to the braces-shop, but I haven't got any reply.

I currently have fixed ceramic brackets and a band on my upper teeth. I would like to take the impressions and get the jaw plate made in advance, due to the lenght of processing time.

Also why do they require VAT reg. no. for EU citizens when the VAT is already included in the price?
