Is it worth it to get braces at 42
« on: 25. July 2021, 22:41:15 PM »
I went to see my local dentist to get my teeth cleaned about a month ago and I said I wasn't happy with my smile. He recommended I see an orthodontist to get an opinion. She recommends that I get braces and I wouldn't be a candidate for invisalign. She also said I would need a herbst appliance and elastics at some point during my two to two and a half year sentence.

Would it be worth it to get braces at this point in my life? What would you guys do if you were me? If it helps, I'm also in the dating pool.  ;D

You still got halve a life left which is a long time. I would do it for the nice looking teeth after and the experience. However I would also consider the practicalities. Braces are expensive. What would you otherwise do with the money? Decide what makes you the happiest.

I would do it; you'll be glad you did when you finish and can't stop smiling!

I've met people with braces a lot older than 42, including a 70+ woman.  If you want it, and can afford it, why not?

Hi,
I'm also considering braces. In september I have my yearly appointment with my dentist. I'll ask her what to do with some teeth that are not so well "positioned".
I'm a little bit nervous because I have some kind of braces fetish. I would like to start wearing braces but I don't know what my environment will think about it.
I look younger than my real age so that might help.

2 years of pain for a lifetime of confidence and happiness is well worth it. The only regret you will have looking back is if you don’t, not if you do. People can be dicks to you about it but they are the few and the majority will either not care or think it’s very brave or awesome what you are doing. Don’t do it for anyone other than yourself.

I think it would be worth it, and would do it if I were in your shoes.

I had braces as a teenager, but now have a few small things that I kinda wish were fixed, but they aren't big and the dentist has never mentioned. If I was single I would ask the dentist about it, but being married I feel like I'd have to get a sense of if my wife is okay with me looking into it and us potentially spending that much money.

Thank you guys so much for responding. I made another appointment for a consultation with an orthodontist that's about 35 miles away from me. I just want another opinion before I start my braces journey.

It’s definitely worth it. I’m going through treatment and am older than you. It’s not for your appearance as much as it is for your long term health and definitely worth it.
