Teenage girl Dominique Swain in the title role wears a retainer throughout the movie and takes it out several times before eating or making love to her stepfather. In one scene, she drops the retainer into her stepfather's glass for fun. He quickly takes it out to hide it from her mother, then puts it back into her mouth (the wrong way round).
