I learned something that is new to me: Fixed retainers have to be removed and cleaned every six months.

This seems to be logical when I think about it now.

Nope, that doesn't happen. The woman in that video is mistaken. Watching the video she doesn't get her permanent retainer removed and replaced, they just cleaned around it with an ultrasonic scaler.

I had mine in for 24 years straight, and it was only removed because lower braces were put back on.
